I Hate My Job, What Can I Do?

Have you ever said, “I hate my job, what can I do?” With this brutal economy, finding a new job is tough when each open position may have 5 or more applicants (sometimes much more). If you are working right now, be thankful for having employment. However, some jobs are so stressful that it makes it nearly impossible to get out of bed in the morning (or night depending on your shift). Some jobs may have negative health effects due to high stress or a negative work environment.

What options are out there? The first obvious is to find a new job. That is not exactly easy right now, but not totally impossible. The good thing is that if you have a job, you can be a little picky while trying to find a new one. The first step is to get a resume in order. Here are some quick tips on putting together a good resume:

* Write a summary of your skills and unique abilities just under your contact information. Include any specialized training you have. Putting this towards the top of your resume will help grab the attention of the recruiter, for they have usually scan resumes quickly and have many to go through.

* Keep your language simple. You want to come across as professional but not snooty. Don’t use fancy words just for the sake of doing so. You might risk using a word in the wrong context and looking foolish.

* Include relevant skills but don’t list skills that most people have such as, “I can use e-mail.” I don’t know many people who can’t, even a lot of folks in their 70s can use e-mail. On the other hand if you are skilled with using a CAD program, that would be good to include.

* Make sure to have somebody who is good with grammar to proof read it!

You have but a few seconds to get the attention of a recruiter, writing a resume that stands out is key to getting an interview.

The other option to a new job would be to start your own business. That doesn’t sound too easy does it? It depends on what you want to do. Internet marketing is one thing that almost anybody can learn. There are many different aspects to making a living with your computer.

Affiliate marketing is a way to start making money online and eventually grow a business. This consists of selling other people’s products. You can become an affiliate of almost anything. Products, services, and e-books are all things that you can promote and make a commission off of.

Some internet marketers focus on creating simple websites and selling them for a profit. Another way to earn is by helping small businesses to market themselves. Once you learn the ropes of affiliate marketing, you will have a good idea of how to drive traffic to a local business.

Earning a living online takes a ton of work and dedication. The route that I am going is to do as much as I can while I am not at work so that someday I will be able to quit my job. With three kids, that means staying up late after they go to bed. I do know people that have been able to quit their day job. That doesn’t mean you are making millions, but if you can replace your monthly income of say $3500, then you are good to go.

If you are worried about benefits such as health insurance, I know a guy who has a small woodworking business and seven kids! He works part-time at Fed Ex so that he can provide health insurance for his family.

There are options out there. But you need to start now so that in the future you can get where you want to be. Knowing that I am starting to do something about my future helps me get through the tough days at my job, and I try to be thankful that I am able to provide for my family.
